The academic performance of 8th-grade students in general education institutions regarding mathematics is gradually deteriorating year after year.
This observation is supported by the findings of a nationwide monitoring study that the State Service for Quality of Education has been conducting for the third consecutive year.
Specifically, the average success rate in completing tasks saw a slight decrease in 2025 compared to 2023 and 2024 (dropping from 51% to 47%).
The distribution across proficiency levels indicates an annual increase in the proportion of students achieving results at the basic and intermediate levels.
Concurrently, the percentage of monitoring participants who demonstrate sufficient and advanced levels of performance is diminishing each year.

As revealed by the research conducted by the State Service for Quality of Education, participants who confirmed possessing certain IT skills in 2023 and 2024 achieved somewhat better test results than those who reported a low level of proficiency in such skills.
However, in 2025, no significant correlation was found between the success rate in the mathematics test and the level of proficiency in specific IT skills.
Nevertheless, throughout all three years, participants who had access to a computer, mobile phone, laptop, or tablet, along with printed books and other necessary study materials, obtained slightly superior results on the tests compared to those who lacked these resources.
Furthermore, no significant dependence was observed between test performance success and the availability of personal space (a room or a dedicated workspace) for learning at the participant’s place of residence.
